About the foundation

Research, treatment and education

Axon Research Foundation is a private, independent research foundation for psychedelic medicine in the Nordics, with Axonklinikken as its clinical environment. Our vision is a world where effective treatment for mental illness is within reach for everyone.

Many people living with anxiety, depression and PTSD need more treatment options than those available today. There is new and promising knowledge here, and our task is to make it safe, documented and available.

We contribute to the funding and execution of clinical research on psychedelic-assisted treatment, and translate the findings into practice together with the clinic. We organise treatment projects for patient groups where current options fall short, publish the results openly, and organise training for health professionals in the medical use of psychedelics.

Ida Falchenberg

CEO, Axon Research Foundation

Our mission is to build the infrastructure for responsible psychedelic therapy in Norway. Research, treatment projects and education, all under one roof.

CEO of Axon Research Foundation, PhD candidate at the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS), and assistant professor at the University of Inland Norway (INN). Ida researches psychedelic-assisted therapy, is course coordinator for the continuing education program in psychedelic therapy at INN, and is certified in psychedelic therapy through CIIS, MAPS, and Grof Legacy Training.

Nils Harald Thommessen

Chairman

Nils H. Thommessen established the foundation in the spring of 2026 and chairs its board. He is an impact investor and lawyer, investing in projects and companies with the potential and purpose to solve challenges for people, society and the environment. He also serves on the board of Axonklinikken AS and other companies in which he is invested.

Sissel Leire

Board Member

Gestalt psychotherapist in private practice in Stavanger. Extensive experience in strategy, leadership and board work in Norwegian business.

Camilla Lindvall Dahlgren

Board Member

Camilla Lindvall Dahlgren is a board member of the Axon Research Foundation and Professor of Psychology at Oslo New University College. With more than 17 years of experience, she is one of Norway's leading eating disorder researchers, and involved in several ongoing studies of psychedelic-assisted therapy.

Thale Waaler Eggen

Board Member

PhD fellow at Inland Norway University, with a background in religious studies from the University of Oslo. Researches psychedelic practice at the intersection of religion, politics and health.

Lowan Stewart

Board Member

Specialist in emergency medicine (MD) with more than 20 years of clinical experience. Founder and medical director of Axon Clinics, and a pioneer of ketamine-assisted psychotherapy in the Nordic region.

Anniken Fjelberg

Board Member

Associate Partner at Sprint Consulting with more than 30 years in strategy and branding. Has co-founded several companies, is an active investor, and has held leadership roles and board positions including the National Export Council and Virke.

We work along three lines: treatment for patient groups where current options fall short, research that makes new treatments possible, and knowledge work that ensures they are adopted safely. These are the projects we are involved in.

Project Momentum

KAP treatment for 20 war-veterans with PTSD

20 veterans will receive ketamine-assisted psychotherapy with structured follow-up in order to treat PTSD.

Project REPAIR

Psilocybin treatment for veterans with PTSD

The first clinical psilocybin trial in Norway. Seeking funding, planned for 2027–2028.

University course in psychedelic therapy

15 ECTS credits for health professionals, part-time

Ida Falchenberg is the course director for this education course at the University of Innlandet. Both the foundation and the Axonklinikken are involved in the implementation through lectures and practical clinic days.

Training course in ketamine-assisted psychotherapy for psychologists in private practice

The training qualifies psychologists in private practice to deliver ketamine-assisted psychotherapy. The course is part of Axonklinikken's partner network, and the foundation takes an active role in the training.

Knowledge project

Textbook in psychedelic therapy

A Norwegian textbook for students and health professionals, publication planned for December 2028

The book offers a research-based, clinically oriented introduction to psychedelic therapy, written for students in higher education and for health professionals in practice. It brings together perspectives from psychology, psychiatry, neuroscience and psychotherapy, and addresses phenomenological, ethical and legal dimensions of the field.
